Since the 14th century, the unicorn appeared on the coat of arms of the city of Saverne. She would have been chosen because of her purity and courage, qualities that make Saverne an impregnable City.
According to another
version, the unicorn dipped her horn in a fountain of Saverne, conferring curative and therapeutic virtues to the water. Thus, through the Middle Ages, many pilgrims and famous people travelling through Saverne took away this
water as an elixir of miracle.
Nowaday, the unicorn is the symbol of the local beer, brewed from the very pure water of Saverne.
